AORTIC (Australasian Outcomes Research Tool for Intensive Care) is an intensive care database programme to support the ANZICS patient database. Its philosophy simple: to provide a tool for collecting a standardised data set to describe and compare intensive care practice across units. AORTIC was original developed by Dr T. Churches, Dr R. Herkes and Dr D. McWilliam. AORTIC is designed to operate on a Windows platform and can be networked.
AORTIC can collect data from multiple intensive care units in multiple hospitals is a single database. It has facilities for recording patient demographics, hospital and ICU admission data together with diagnostic, physiologic intervention and outcome data related to intensive care. Physiology and intervention data can be collected for each day in ICU if required.
Features of AORTIC include:
- Easy user-interface
- ICD9-CM codes (both diagnostic and intervention codes can be stored for the hospital admission)
- Capacity for customized data fields at all levels in the database
- Daily physiologic data storage and scoring (optional)
- Error checking on data input
- Interventions can be recorded in detail for the whole of ICU admission
- Data can be exported to other applications in a wide range of formats
- ACHS indicators for ICU can be stored (except inability to admit to ICU)
New Features of AORTIC 7.0.0:
- Inclusion of ANZPIC Paediatric Fields
- Additional interventions - List of interventions can also be customised to reflect the preferred or most used interventions
- Additional APACHE III diagnostic codes
- Incorporation of A2A and Yourhospital into the AORTIC front interface
- Increased number of customisable tab forms

Data collection forms (View PDF Version) have been designed in conjunction with AORTIC 2K. A copy of this form is included in the AORTIC new release package that you will receive. Feel free to adjust this form to cater for your hospitals specific needs.
NB: An Instruction Guide for collecting the data is also available in PDF format.
