The ANZICS Committee on Death and Organ Donation Represents the Society’s interests in matters related to brain death, organ and tissue donation and organ donation after cardiac death (DCD). The committee is responsible for developing and promoting guidelines for:

  • The determination of brain death and irreversible cessation of the circulation
  • Communication with, and care of the family of patients who are potential organ donors
  • The clinical management of patients for organ donation.

The Committee provides advice on strategies to improve organ and tissue donation, as well as on the educational needs of intensive care doctors with regard to brain death and organ and tissue donation. Another important function of the Committee is liaising with other organisations, groups, and Government on issues related to organ and tissue donation.

The ANZICS Statement on Death and Organ Donation represents a huge commitment by the members of the ANZICS Committee on Death and Organ Donation. The Committee welcomes your feedback and intends that it be used as an active document to support best practice in the determination of death and organ and tissue donation in Australian and New Zealand hospitals.
